elizabeth_banks1

Elizabeth talks to Lynn Hirschberg of NYTimes.com/TMagazine:

Actress Elizabeth Banks was born Elizabeth Mitchell in Pittsfield, a small city in the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts near the New York border, on February 10, 1974. She describes herself as having been seen as a “goody two-shoes” in her youth who was nominated to be the local Harvest Queen.

Banks left home to attend college at the University of Pennsylvania, from which she graduated Magna cum Laude, and went on to attend the Advanced Training Program at the prestigious American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, from which she graduated in 1998. She then moved to New York and worked in the theater as well as obtaining her first roles on-screen, small parts in movies and guest-star roles on television series. Seeking more screen work, Banks moved to Los Angeles and the supporting roles soon came, and required that she change her name to avoid confusion with another actress named Elizabeth Mitchell who had already established herself. Her first signal success came in her delightful, brief performance in Spider-Man (2002), for which she is best known despite subsequent leading roles, as “Betty Brant”, the secretary of the cantankerous newspaper tycoon. (Banks has reprised the role in the Spider-Man series.)

Banks followed up her performance in Spider-Man with small roles in other movies released that year, Swept Away (2002) and Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can (2002), in which she plays a bank clerk who assists the young Frank Abagnale with vital information about bank checking policies. More recognition came with Seabiscuit (2003), in which Banks charmed audiences playing the wife of Seabiscuit’s owner “Charles Howard”, and Banks was able to broker these successes into leading roles, in Michael Showalter’s The Baxter (2005) and James Gunn’s Slither (2006).

More recently, Elizabeth had roles in Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008), Role Models (2008), W. (2008), and The Uninvited (2009).

jenniefinch

Jennie Lynn Finch is an American softball player who pitched for the USA softball team that won the gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and she won a Silver medal for USA softball in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Although she is listed on the roster as a pitcher, Finch sometimes plays first base. She is widely regarded as the most famous softball player of all time.

Finch received more votes than Anna Kournikova in an ESPN online poll as the most attractive female athlete. Like Kournikova, Finch has modeled swimwear for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition in 2005-06.

Finch has appeared on various talk shows promoting softball and the US Olympic Team, and hosts a segment on the TV program This Week in Baseball. Her “This Week in Baseball” segment often features her pitching to major-league baseball players, using a softball and pitching from the same distance she would in a softball game. Finch usually strikes out the baseball players by using her 71 mph riseball that is equivalent to a fastball of nearly 100 mph in baseball, where the pitcher’s rubber is 17.5 feet farther away than in softball.

Finch was offered a lucrative contract to appear nude for Playboy magazine, but commented to the press on August 14, 2004, that the offer was not going to tempt her. She said that she would “rather be a role model for young girls.” She said that “muscles on women are beautiful, but my personal decision is to stay away from those things; to stay away from that.”

Finch pitches for the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch softball league. She was named the NPF’s Co-Pitcher of the Year in 2005, sharing the award with teammate Lauren Bay.

rachelmcadams1

McAdams played the title role in the film The Hot Chick alongside Rob Schneider, but her career really progressed when she starred as Regina George, the queen bee in 2004′s Mean Girls. McAdams was told to partly model the character of Regina George after Alec Baldwin‘s performance in Glengarry Glen Ross (1992). She was much older than the character she played. McAdams had previously appeared in the Canadian television series Slings and Arrows, co-starring Paul Gross. She played a main role in the first season, but due to her rising stardom was written out of the second season, appearing in only the first episode. She followed Mean Girls with the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks‘ novel The Notebook, with Ryan Gosling, with whom she would later begin an off-screen romance.

In 2005, she played Owen Wilson‘s love interest in Wedding Crashers and then starred in the suspense thriller Red Eye as Lisa Reisert, where she played a young woman held captive aboard a red-eye flight by criminal-for-hire and assassin Jackson Rippner (Cillian Murphy). Rachel was in The Family Stone where she starred in an ensemble cast alongside Diane Keaton, Craig T. Nelson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Dermot Mulroney, Luke Wilson, Brian J. White and Claire Danes. McAdams auditioned for the role of Sue Storm in Fantastic Four and only just lost the part to Jessica Alba.

McAdam’s career slowed down in 2006. She was originally signed on as the female lead in The Last Kiss but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts, and the role was given to Jacinda Barrett. She decided to take a year off from acting, to spend time with friends and family. McAdams then agreed to star in the drama Married Life with Pierce Brosnan and Patricia Clarkson. She turned down the role of Bond girl “Vesper Lynd” in the James Bond film Casino Royale. She stated in an interview in May 2006 that she did not want to star in a big-budget action film because she wanted to pursue other projects.

Despite having appeared nude in The Notebook, McAdams opted out of a cover shoot for Vanity Fair—in which she was to appear alongside two other young Hollywood actresses, Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley—upon finding out it was to be nude. Tom Ford, artistic director for the cover, instead appeared with them. When McAdams appeared on set and discovered it was nude, she politely declined, according to Knightley.

McAdams next starred in the political thriller State of Play alongside Academy Award winners Ben Affleck, Russell Crowe and Helen Mirren. Production wrapped in April 2008 and the film was released theatrically April 17, 2009.

In October 2008, McAdams was announced to be starring in Guy Ritchie‘s new film Sherlock Holmes, based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle‘s classic stories. McAdams will play the role of Irene Adler alongside Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law. Filming began in October 2008 for release on Christmas Day 2009.

July 1 – Heather Graham

Today’s “HOT or NOT?” candidate is Heather Graham. Text the Bill & Spence show at 29909 to cast your vote!

UPDATE: The votes are in! Heather Graham is:

heather_graham1

Here’s a recent video of Heather on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Heather Graham was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and raised in a strict household. Her father worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and her mother was a former schoolteacher and author. Heather and her sister, Aimee Graham, were forced to relocate often as a result of their father’s occupation, and Heather became increasingly shy. Surprisingly, she had a passion for acting from an early age and despite being labeled a “theater geek” by her peers, she was voted Most Talented by her high school senior class. Unfortunately, her love of acting created a tension between her and her family, although her mother obligingly drove her to auditions in Hollywood throughout her adolescence. After high school Heather moved to Los Angeles and got small roles in a variety of films, including Drugstore Cowboy (1989). When her career did not take off as quickly as she had hoped, Heather enrolled in the University of California at Los Angeles to get her degree in drama. It was there she was noticed by actor James Woods and he secured her a part in his film Diggstown (1992). Heather dropped out of UCLA after two years to pursue her acting career on a full-time basis. Aside from gaining a modeling contract with Emanuel Ungaro Liberte, Heather has starred in such films as Swingers (1996), a role she received after being taken out swing dancing by Jon Favreau, to blockbusters like Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and Boogie Nights (1997). Most recently, Heather starred as Jade in the comedy, The Hangover (2009).
